    For international students wishing to undertake a placement as part of this course, you must apply to the International Hospitality Management (work experience route).

Course summary
Start or develop a career in the international hospitality industry, gaining a broad range of professional, technical and transferable skills required by the industry.
Seek out and develop a depth of knowledge and understanding of management theories and specialised aspects of the hospitality business. Critically evaluate and apply concepts to problems and issues in the international hospitality industry. Explore your own value and belief systems and share ideas with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds, thus promoting internationalisation. Develop investigative research skills which will enable you to progress to research degrees or undertake consultancy.The course is designed to provide you with the theoretical background, skills and experiences necessary to become successful leaders within the hospitality industry.This course offers an optional work experience route including a 6-12 month work placement for students starting in September.
How you learn

Work placements

The work experience route involves a 6-12 month work placement (September start only) in the UK or overseas. During your placement you improve your practical management skills and employability, gaining real experience in industry.

We help you secure a placement by running employability workshops and have a dedicated placement team to support you. Past students have had placements with world leaders in hospitality including Ritz Carlton, The Gleneagles Hotel, Hilton hotels, JW Marriott and Intercontinental Hotels Group, including Holiday Inns and Crown Plaza Hotels.

Live projects

The course includes guest lecturers from industry experts, the use and familiarisation with online and video technologies, field trips and the opportunity to participate in real life consulting projects.

Entry requirements

Normally an honours degree or recognised equivalent qualification

We welcome enquiries from people with substantial management experience but do not have the normal entry requirements. We may invite you for an interview to discuss your background, experience and qualifications. Through accreditation of prior learning (APL), you may be able to claim entry with credit or exemptions based on your existing qualifications, knowledge and experience. You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam. Find out more

Work Experience Route

If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS 6.5 score with a minimum of 6.0 in all skills or equivalent.

Non Work Experience Route

If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS 6.0 score with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent.

If your English language skill is currently below the required level we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.
