How you learn

Work placements

You’ll have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Placements are usually at a major construction firm or consultancy – and can contribute towards your professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence and the Chartered Institute of Building's Professional Review.

Previous students have spent their placement working as site managers for national construction firms, assistant project managers for national firms, a HR and recruitment consultant, a health and safety manager, a design manager and as a consultant engineer.

Field trips

Field trips on this course include local excursions, trips to cities within the UK and a project-based visit – which is usually a major European city.

Networking

We have strong connections with a number of construction firms in the region. Through these you’ll be able to visit live sites and gain valuable professional opinions.

All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.

The course teaches you to use the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom and apply them to real-life projects – preparing you for employment in construction management when you graduate. You’ll work on real briefs such as site-based land surveying activities.

You learn through

  • field trips
  • site visits
  • live projects
  • lectures and seminars
  • tutorials
  • self-directed study
  • practical classes
